THE INDIAN WARS  1876         (Ricky Vichroski) June 6th,2012

The Indian Wars in 1876 , for me were a really hectic time in life. Following the Civil War , the railroad companies begain going down deeper and deeper into the west , invading indian territories. the plains slowly started to swarm with settlers and they just blaintently begain to take over all out territory. Some of us tried to make friends with the settlers while others made enemies with them , fighting them and causing ruckus over land ownership. Wars began popping over one my one. The first war was the navajo and the Apache wars that begain in 1861. This started the fighting that would carry on for years to come. When the 1860's and 70's came along , Colonel John M Chivinghton massacred men , women , and children of the Cheyenne indians of a peacful village. After this the Cheyenne's surrendered and moved peacefully into reservations. This was all a very frightful time for us. We were all worried on a daily basis and frightened for a lives. We had to live day to day knowing that we could be attacked and killed for a land. In 1876 The Battle of Little Bighorn broke out. During this battle , we killed more then 200 American Soldiers and we proved that we can be victorious. After this victory , it angered the colonist greatly and it made them want to prove a statement to us for once and for all. After we surrendered out weapons , someone shot a bullet and it triggered total chaos. The american solders opened fire and killed over 250 unarmed Sioux. this devastation later became known as the Massacre at Wounded Knee.

NEW INVENTIONS,ROBBER BARONS  1876 (Ricky Vichroski) June 6th

1879 was a very productive year for America. Everybody was trying to invent the next big thing and become rich and successful.Thomas Edison was a highschool dropout , a buinness man , aswell as an inspired inventor. Edisons biggest invention was the invention of the electric light bulb. In 1878 Edison started Edison Electric Light Company. This company absolute blew up and everybody started using his product. Edison was a huge influence in new inventions in this time. Robber Baron was a term used in the 19th century to call a well known , poweful buissness man. Thomas Edison was known as a Robber Baron. Another very powerful person in the buissness industry in this time was Andrew Carnergie. Carnegie started Carnegie Steel Company and made his huge fortune through this buissness. He earned himself in the group of few people who had the nicknames  "Captains of industry" due to his extreme success in the buissness industry that started shaping America. Through out his life he donated large sums of money to start libraries , schools , and small buissness's. in todays day and age , Edison and Carnagie both have their names down in history as individuals who helped shape the country of America in many ways.

                                                                      1887  (Patrick Sullivan) June 7th 2012
Oh my God this is crazy! Everyone is coming over from Ireland and all these other countries its nuts.  My name is Patrick Sullivan and I work for the Immigration Authority.  I don’t know if I like this or not.  I guess you could call me a Nativist. An Nativist is someone who wants favored status over people who are immigrants and not citizens.  Prohibition is going on too, this means I can’t drink either.  Well I have to go, I am going to make more special passports.

1880 (Patrick Sullivan) June 7th 2012I have been watching the guys build that railroad in my backyard. It is pretty cool watching them build it by hand. It must take a physical toll on them being out there all day long. I bet they don't even get paid that much money. It was a long six years. It stretches from the Atlantic coast all the way to the pacific ocean. Now people can travel across the country at a faster pace and goods can get from one place to another quicker.

                                          1878   Populism   (Kevin McCarthy) June 7th 2012
The late 1800’s were controlled by angry farmers.  Farmers were really mad about benefits from what they do.  I was a witness to lots of farmers complaining to the superior government.  The farmers were complaining about three major things that were affecting them and got them very mad.  The first thing that made them angry was the money that they were making.  They were complaining because they weren’t making money due to a long-term decline in crop prices that started when the civil war ended.  The farmers were very serious about competition now because it was all about who makes the most money off of the crops that they were growing.  Once lower class farmers realized that they have no chance of making more money and producing more crops than the bigger companies, they complained to the government.  The government just brushed off the complaints and refused to help the farmers make more money.  When the government refused to help the farmers, all of the farmers unite to make a bigger complaint and make the loss of money a bigger deal.  The Second thing that the farmers were complaining about was silver minting.  The farmers were complaining about how they all want unlimited minting of silver.  I heard a lot of farmers saying how the unlimited minting of silver would allow them to make more money as well as crops.  They were also saying how if they were able to produce as many silver coins as they wanted, they would make tons more money and all of the other farmers would be happy too.  The Bland Anderson act was in 1878 and was for severities.  This act was asking the government to produce more silver coins.  The last thing that they didn’t like was how the government created a progressive income tax law.  This law put more taxes on farmers as they made money, so half the money that they made had to go to the taxes owed to the government.

KKK parade  (Thomas Calabro) June 7th 2012

One of my friends invited me for a few beers at his friend’s house of course it was a house of a clan member of the KKK. I go over there and I felt so out of place they were all there with their white robes on filling cans of gas. They were talking about tonight’s mission and how they were going to this black political leader’s house and scare him and his family. I asked why they wear these robes and ride their horses in the middle of the night and they said they do this to hide their identities because they attacked in small towns were everyone knew each others faces and they rode the horses for intimidation and called themselves night riders. They said that they were doing this to take away the rights of blacks and stop them from voting that they shouldn’t be able to do these things their main focus was black republicans. Then I followed to ask when they get to the people’s house what are some of the things that they do? The Klan member said they circle the place on their horses yelling, chanting, and throw stuff through their windows then they will torture their families and their main target and either kill them, beat them brutally, and even light their homes on fire. The KKK was a very intimidating group and no one could really stop them. They were radical and took extreme measures of hatred toward the black race. That’s the only race that they singled out because they felt that they had no right being here and they should have no rights or freedoms. I’m glad my friend asked me to come to this meeting with him I learned a lot about their Klan and they even asked me to join.

17.3 The World of Jim Crow_1870’s (Kevin Mccarthy) June 8th 2012
Jim Crow was an act of segregation.  I witnessed all of the horrible things that were happening to my black friends and I.  I am a black person and I can easily tell you that this point in time was one of the most shameful things that have ever happened in my life.  The things that were happening to black people made us look like fools and were extremely embarrassing.  The Jim Crow act started in the 1870’s shortly after the end of reconstruction.  African Americans lost many rights and most of our freedom.  Blacks in the south lost our rights to vote along with many other discriminations including random violence towards us.  More and more segregation laws were being passed and our lives were turning into a living hell.  The blacks in the north were also being discriminated against.  Booker T. Washington was a black man that believed that hard-working African Americans should be accepted by white people to work for them. 1875 was the start of the Plussy vs. Ferguson act.  The Plussy vs. Ferguson act gave blacks their rights back and created a little relief on blacks in the south.

The Temple Game 1895 (Tom Calabro) June 13th 2012
The Temple game was very intense between the Baltimore Orioles and the Cleveland Spiders. Cleveland won the serious 4 games to 1. Cleveland was the underdogs after Baltimore were national league champs this year. The game was at Union park in Baltimore Maryland it has been played there since 1882. The park was filled with people everyone in the state had to be there it was crazy. Baltimore walked in their as the home team and thought they were going to kill Cleveland who was the sixth seed team and just made it into the playoffs but they were mistaken Cleveland came out firing and won 4 games on the road and ended up upsetting the Orioles in their 1895 season after they were favored to win it all. After Cleveland won the ballpark was going crazy with boos and people screaming Baltimore couldn’t believe that they have just been defeated after having such a great season after going 87-43. Cleveland fans on the other hand were going crazy and couldn’t believe that their team had won. It was a great series and a great final game you had to be there to feel the excitement in the ballpark there are no words that can even describe the feeling.

The temple game Pt 2 (Xavier Monteiro) june 13th 2012
The oriels were the best out. I’m glad that I played for this game because it came out to be a good one. They were the number one in stolen bases and fastest team. They had a really good batting average and everyone was really good on there team. They also had really tight pitching which shut the teams down, and no one could stop them. My son was so excited to go to his first baseball game so that made me happy because his face lit up with joy as the team was winning. I’m not really a baseball guy but that was the beast game that I have ever seen, I would like to go to some more in the future.

Rise of big cities (Xavier Monteiro) June 13th 2012

I am 75 years old, and growing up in New York was a big deal for me. I was from the Ghetto area, in which one ethnic or racial group was seen. If you were rich you had lived in the suburbs and you were often given a lot of attention.School was pritty ruff growing up because there were a lot of gangs and they tried to take controll over everything so I wasn’t really feeling it. Its just alota work and I had a long life, a lot of New York memories that come to my mind everyday and its crazy now that I look back on how I grew up.
